Recently, Mutts & Mittens was invited to participate in the Perak State Stray Dog Issue Coordination meeting, hosted by YB Sandrea Ng, to provide opinions and solutions to address the long-standing issue of stray animals that has been a concern for local governments and non-governmental animal welfare organizations. The aim is to effectively and compassionately improve the problem of stray dogs from its root causes.
Through this meeting, it is hoped that the state government can establish a committee and enact laws to develop long-term and short-term strategies for more effectively and sustainably addressing and solving the stray dog issue. This includes discussing how to strengthen the dog licensing system by mandating microchipping of pets and registration of the pet owner as a requirement during the application process. This will facilitate the identification of pet owners and hopefully reduce intentional abandonment of household pets, thereby alleviating of the stray dog problem.
